Letter Zz week! This week we will be wrapping up our letter of the week activities as we learn about the letter Zz. We will also be learning all about our new classroom caterpillars! We received them last week and will be watching them transform over the next few weeks. The students are very excited to be able to watch them grow into butterflies! We will be keeping a journal about our observations and writing about what we see. We will also continue working on our measurement chapter in math. This afternoon we will complete our end of the year AIMSWEB testing with the reading lab teachers and begin our caterpillar journals!

Earlier this week we had a special visitor come to our classroom to discuss body safety. We discussed how to keep our bodies healthy and safe.
We have also been working hard on popcorn words and their shapes. We have sorted and discussed letters that are tall, letters that are small, and letters that fall. This has helped us a lot with our writing. We know exactly where each letter should be touching! This morning we took our math test. We will begin our next chapter on Monday. We will continue to practice our addition and subtraction skills throughout the remainder of the year. Our next chapter will focus on measurement. Thank you to everyone who supported our Character Ed. program yesterday by donating a dollar for hat day! We had some very fun hats in our classroom! Reminders: Please send in a classroom snack if you have not done so this week. Field Trip permission slips AND money are due by 4/23. *all school fees must be paid prior to the field trip!* Please return you intent to return form by May 1st! Thank you! This week is letter Xx week! We worked on our handwriting for the letter X today as well as several popcorn words. We also made flashcards to practice building sentences. Below you will see some of our work. Students will be bringing home their flashcards tonight. You can use these for popcorn word practice as well as building new sentences. Remember to have your student touch each word as they read their sentences! In math we wrapped up our chapter by working on decomposing numbers 16-20. Tomorrow we will review our chapter and prepare for our test on Thursday.
PLEASE RETURN FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIPS AND PAYMENTS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. PAYMENTS AND PERMISSION SLIPS ARE DUE BY APRIL 23rd. Please send in a classroom snack for 24 students. Thank you! This morning we worked on our 'w' popcorn words. We worked on a book called 'Where Are We?' to practice reading these words. In our book, each page had a group of animals and we had to decide where we could find these animals- in the forest, the zoo, a pet store, the ocean, etc. The students did a great job categorizing the animals and reading their new books. These can be kept at home for more practice!
In math today, we worked on composing the numbers 16-19 using our ten frames. This afternoon we will be doing a cloud science experiment using cotton balls! :) Have a wonderful weekend! |
