This week we will be working with our popcorn words: see, can, look, at, the, and I to practice reading sentences. These sentences will be sent home tonight so that you can practice at home as well. Students will also be bringing home their next decodable book tonight. Once your child can fluently read this story, please sign and return the book!
In math today our lesson focused on decomposing number 11-15. We have also been practicing our addition and subtraction using a number line. **Our Kindergarten Egg Hunt has been moved to TOMORROW!** If you have not sent in your eggs or candy, please do so TOMORROW! Your child may bring their own Easter basket/bag. Reminders: Tomorrow is the LAST day to turn in your Science Night registration forms. If you would like to participate in this event, please return this in your child's folder tomorrow! NO SCHOOL 4/2-4/6 Spring Break This morning we read a Little Critter story; It's Just a Thunderstorm. We discussed how we feel during a thunderstorm. In our story, Little Critter was really afraid but knew that the rain was good for the trees, plants, and grass! We decided that thunderstorms may be scary, but they are good for the earth. :) We did a fun 'write the room' activity today using 24 CVC words. The students worked hard on sounding out these words and had a great time completing this activity. You can practice these words with your student tonight. See if they can read you the words independently! In math, we prepared for chapter 7 by making our flashcards and reviewing. This chapter we will be working on composing and decomposing numbers 11-19 and working with our ten frames. You can use the flashcards we made today to help practice recognizing these numbers quickly in ten frames.
We also completed a letter shape activity for this weeks popcorn words. Don't forget we will be taking a test tomorrow over this weeks words! This afternoon we worked in our centers and then completed a 'Violet Vase' art project for letter V week! This week we are learning all about the letter Vv. Yesterday we introduced our new word family, the -ip word family. We practiced building and reading these words in our pocket chart; chip, dip, lip, sip, zip, hip, rip. We also reviewed this week's popcorn words.
Today we took our Chapter 6 Math test over subtraction. We will begin Chapter 7 on Thursday! We also made flashcards for this weeks popcorn words. Your student will be bringing these home tonight to practice! This afternoon we worked in our new centers- we are practicing CVC words, graphing, word families, addition, and opposites. Thank you to everyone who has already donated eggs and candy for our upcoming egg hunt. Please have those items turned in to school by Friday March 27th! Below are some of our wonderful SPRING pictures that we painted! We had a busy and fun week in Kindergarten this week! We did a lot of CVC word work using the /u/ sound. We can read a lot of new CVC words thanks to the letter u- try having your student sound out/read these words at home: cup, mug, hug, bug, hut, jug, pup, tug, and bun.
Your student will be bringing home their next decodable book today. Please practice over the weekend and return on Monday! In math we are wrapping up our subtraction chapter. Today we worked on writing out and reading subtraction number sentences. We will be reviewing on Monday and will take our test on Tuesday. We are excited about the beginning of Spring in our classroom! Today we made a list of all the fun things that happen in the springtime. We will be using our ideas to work on some writing activities in the upcoming days. We also read the book Spring Things. This afternoon we worked in our math and reading centers and practiced filling in missing numbers. We also talked about the words 'before' and 'after' to help get numbers in the right sequence. Don't forget to bring back your library books so you can check out a new one on Monday! Have a great weekend! :) |
